PANDEMIC HAIKUS    PANDEMIC HAIKUS     PANDEMIC HAIKUS   PANDEMIC HAIKUS

In 2020, while passing time in my familial home in rural Pennsylvania, haikus were written and mailed to friends. The poems range from advice to spells to bizzare dreams.

DELIVERABLES: 35 Poems

03
Have you felt brain freeze?
Are things hot to the touch?
Cells regenerate
04
Rub them down in oil,
place rosemary on their spine,
wait, then count to ten

05
Speak with desire.
I can hear you chant at night
wishing for stillness

06
When you roll your Rs
did you know you cause earthquakes?
A tectonic tongue

07
Please don’t yell too loud
when I whisper luke warm thoughts.
I’m sorry. Amen.
08
Stretch in the morning
You might fuck better that way
or don’t, up to you

09
Inhaled too sharply
Didn’t have time to breath deep
Lungs ache for shared space
10
Standing on one leg
count all the times you’ve smiled
Ain’t distraction nice?
12
Juice rolls down your lips
Orange peels fall to the ground
Happy sticky hands

13
Burnt skin turns white
Light is red behind closed eyes
Reckless behavior

14
Lemons have nipples
Cut in half to squeeze each breast
They might squirt for you
15
Same clothes every day
I bet you don’t brush your teeth
but I still love you

17
Grass sticks to wet feet
clothes drenched in perspiration
hot sun in the sky

19
How grateful are you?
Shall I pray for both of us?
I’ll put in a word
20
The fruit is too high
Standing on your tippy toes
grasping for sweetness

22
Does your voice echo?
I can’t get mine to shut up
I’ll gargle with salt
23
My feet are dirty
from not wearing chancletas
It’s been twenty years
25
Long nails should be trimmed
unless you need them to dig
yourself out of fear
